I have made a report about one child in the family. A report is information provided to Community Services by any person who suspects there are current concerns for a child (under 16 years) or young person (age 16 to 17 years) due to risk of significant impair from abuse or neglect. You can make a report to Community Services if you suspect that a child or young person is at risk of significant harm. Members of the community and mandatory reporters who suspect that a child or young person is at risk of significant damage (the statutory threshold) should report their concerns to the Child Care Helpline. Tell Community Services if the young person is against the report being made as we must consider the young person’s wishes when deciding to assess or investigate the report and how to do this. Whenever Community Services responds to a report it must also consider the immediate safety, welfare and healthy being of any other children or young people living in the equivalent home, and take appropriate action. If the kid or young person is at risk of important harm, we try to work with the family, other agencies and professionals to make safe they are safe. Home Preventing kid abuse destroy What if a report is made about me or a child in my care? Parents and carers are responsible for the safety and welfare of children or young people in their care. Where this does not occur, or is not possible, Community Services becomes responsible for ensuring that children and young people are safe from abuse and neglect. Caseworkers are trained to assess the family situation and its effect on children, young people and parents. The knowledge you have about your family is very crucial and the caseworker will labor closely with you and other family members to ensure that apropos information is old in the assessment and that your family’s circumstances are fully considered. When we take information about a kid or young person who may have been significantly harmed or injured, or is at risk of important harm, we make decisions about how to assess or investigate the report. The caseworker may also need to talk to the kid or young person in your care. Mostly, children and young people stay with their family throughout Community Services involvement. If our assessment confirms that the child or young person in your care has been abused or neglected or is at immediate risk of this, we will receive action to ensure they are sound from further harm. What action might Community Services take? This could include counseling and referral to urge services for you, the child or young person and other children or young people in your care. In some cases, Community Services might receive the matter to the Children’s Court and apply for an order. If the caseworker doesn't think an APO would be adequate to guard the kid or young person, they may consider making a Protection Application to the Children’s Court for an order that the kid or young person live somewhere else until it's sound again. The Court makes the decision on the basis of information provided to it by Community Services, parents, caregivers and sometimes other professionals or people involved. Our caseworkers labor to ensure that you and the kid or young person in your concern are involved in any decision making which will affect them, you or family. Our purpose is to keep children and young people maximum at risk of abuse and neglect. Community Services’ focus is on supporting vulnerable families and keeping children and young people sound from abuse and neglect.
